This historical fiction novel is set in 1943 in Nazi-occupied Denmark. It tells the story of two friends, one Jewish and one not Jewish, and how the non-Jewish family works with others in the Danish Resistance movement to save the lives of their Jewish friends and neighbors. Although the characters and situation is fictional, the story is based on the actual events of the Danish boat-lift of the Jews to Sweden. It is a gentle introduction to the Holocaust that helps readers understand the everyday aspects of courage and true heroism.
